I've just noticed that the rear has the EVO 9 vortex generators and diffuser, i'm sure that wasn't available on the 8 only the 9, did you add these or where they on the car already. My mates FQ8 doesn't have these but i'm always bitching he should get them, lol.

The fq400 only came with the vortex generator and its had an Evo 9 with diffuser rear bumper fitted. I wasn't keen on the 9 rear bumper originally, it has started to grow on me slightly though, still undecided however. I've lowered the rear of the car aswell, it looks proper hard now :D

I've ordered another set of cams as we've had some issues mapping the car, It's a shame I didn't know about the problems with these cams before I bought them as I seem to be one of the people that suffered from it. There was even talk of a law suit in the states between the cam manufacturers and Bushcur . We made some calculations with injector duty, boost and a few other bits and the car was coming up with figures around 552bhp before we had to abort though.

The problems never end...

You may struggle to see this as I really had to give the bottoms of the pistons a serious good looking over as there's something not right going on with the engine. No2 piston has hairline cracks going through it, you can only just make out one of them if you squint hard enough. You'll need to look at the bottom left portion of the piston underside. Engine is coming apart this weekend to measure the bores and see if anything else is amiss.

Really sorry to hear this Adam. Really hoped you had it sorted so you could really start to enjoy the powers.

I can't see the crack but don't really know what I'm looking for. Are they stock pistons?

The crack is on the skirt section of the piston, it goes through the wall and runs up the inside of the piston, there's at least 4 of them I found. It was hard enough me finding them with two torches, so I can't blame you for not being able to see it. If I had some way of drawing an arrow on the picture I would but I don't know how to on an iPad. I'm proper gutted as I've been able to laugh off the other problems but this is a step too far. I'm sick of working on the car, I've lost count of the times I've had to get the spanners out to fix something.

theyre not stock pistons, they're Wiseco forged pistons. We had slight scoring at the tops of the bores when I took the head off, which I was concerned about but ended up not being serious enough to go further with. Apparently the scoring is caused by ring gaps not being corrected for the bore size and the cracks are from incorrect piston size to bore width, so a poorly built engine possibly. I know how an engine works but I'm not an expert on particular failures so I'm getting people in the know to give me advice on what's what as I need to fix it and do the job properly.

Yeah, chaps, I'm gutted. Checked the other three pistons at the weekend and they seem fine, but regardless it'll get a full set. I had to push it off the ramp for a new shutter we were having installed. This is how the cursed car sits at the moment...

As said the car sits well! Bet it will go well too eventually!!
are you tempted to do a full strip down and check the crank and bearings etc. not much extra work seeing as you'll have to have the head off and pistons and rods off anyway?

Or maybe just tone down the engine performance and move it on, can imagine by now its crossed your mind!

Hope you get it sorted man, hate to see this constant bad news!

Cheers, Chris. I am constantly looking at wheels all the time, I've come close about 3 times to buying a set of Enkei RPF1's like I had on the S15 but my other half always catches me doing it and tells me off :wack:.

Sam, the crank journals are being checked aswell as the rods, I'd be a bit foolish not to do that at this stage. I'm already thinking of running lower boost but I wanted to see what the car was capable of at 2bar, we'll see how things go once the engine is back together. I am considering getting it back to a reasonable tune and selling the car, it's taken it's toll and has caused me a lot of stress in such a short period of ownership. Believe it or not, I keep looking at Darren's S15 for sale thread and thinking if It doesn't sell while I sort the Evo, I'll be interested in it.

Would be a good choice his s15 is mint! Be good to have you back in one if it doesn't work out  I am loving the enkei gtc01rr ATM but still can't get a straight answer when they will be released..... I'm sure if you get it running reliably you won't want to sell up, jut depends how much more you have to go through to get to that stage! Good luck mate

No, mate. I started stripping it down weeks back, I got to the point where the head bolts need removing and then I can remove the pistons but just couldn't be bothered. It's sat in bits for over a month but it needs sorting so I may spend some time on it next weekend. I bought another turbo kit for it, a GT3076R this time, I'm going to modify.
