Yeah, pretty much, mate. Going to measure the bores during the week, they look fine but just to be on the safe side, then I'll order a new set. It won't take much to get it up and running.

Right, bores are all good, I measured them several times to make sure they're accurate. I ordered pistons from Wiseco again but not the same ones. I chose the 1400HD ones this time, quite a bit dearer than the normal forged pistons and are rated to 350bhp per cylinder but, they use a totally different skirt design and run a much thicker wrist pin. They arrived yesterday, but my invoice states one bore size and what I received was .5mm over what I ordered :wack:, so I had to send them back today. I'm doing everything to the motor now. New ARP 2000 rod bolts, new cam belt, new balance shaft belt, pulleys and tensoiners.

i thought this might be interesting to post too, it's a link to the thread I started on the MLR, it's quite long...

http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=444090

im not the only person that has suffered this problem with Wiseco pistons in the UK, quite a few people reported the same problems after I started this discussion. I provide quite a lot of photos and piston to bore clearance measurements later in the thread to show its a fatigue problem.

Just as an extra note, all of my pistons had cracks in them. The rest were all hairline cracks though, the cracks on piston 3 went all the way through the skirt, I was very lucky the piston didn't tear apart.

I fitted Wiseco pistons to a scooby block years ago, it did about 20k and started running badly with low compression. I found all the pistons had hairline cracks and one had large crack too! So as you say very common problem with some Wiseco.

We only fit cosworth and roger Clark pistons if we do uprated!

I hope it all goes well Adam, its put you through the mixer too much already!

Mate, I was at my wits end when I found the cracks back in January, that's why the car has sat untouched for 5 months, I'd had enough. I got sick of driving a slow arse Clio though... I'm not sure if all the problems are power related as the people that have announced issues on the MLR I know are all running between 500 and 600bhp, including myself. A lot of well respected people made their presence in my thread, which I'm glad happened, as most seemed to agree on a poor piston design from Wiseco.

That sucks man! Hopefully this will sort out any previous issues though.
Is it a problem with that design if piston then rather than wiseco on the whole?
Not a very good advert for the company having so many failures! Was looking at wiseco stuff myself

Wiseco have revised their wrist pin design. I'm not sure when it actually happened but there are the standard wrist pins, which I had, and the thicker type, which reduce flex. Mine, I noticed were particularly bad compared to the other in that thread as they'd worn the coating off the side walls of the pistons. The 1400HD pistons I've ordered are one of the best on the market along with the CP X pistons, which I nearly bought instead. There's been no failures on them compared to the mass reports of the "generic" forged pistons I was running, along with everyone else.

i always like to add a picture to make boring words look more interesting, so I took this last weekend of my empy block still sat in the car...

i also took a picture of this rarity we have, it never ever gets used though...

Just read all 8 pages on the MLR, damn those guys no how to bitch and provide super technical answers at the same time, lol...

so, your not the only one with the skirt cracks, looks all to common on that design of piston and wrist pin.

The general consensus of the pros is the 1400HD or ND JEs or CP X, lol.. Personal choice then at the higher end, 1400HDs great choice.

Good luck this time around... And your right plenty of pros chipping into the thread..

I suppose you can't get any compensation for the failure, no case for a faulty product?

hope you get it back on the road soon pal, I feel your pain with it all..

Ichigo, there are some very very stupid people on that club, some very knowledgable people and all of them are very argumentative :wack:. It does provide for some humorous reading sometimes.

Adam, I doubt I'd get a penny from Wiseco. They can argue against improper installation, which is what a few people have mentioned in the thread on the MLR. I took one of the pins out on Wednesday too and the piston has distorted slightly as I had to knock it out, so that would coincide with piston flex.

The correct pistons finally arrived today, but the ARP 2000 rod bolts didn't turn up with them for some reason. You can see the difference in the piston skirt design and the wrist pin, a much better design all round.

just waiting on the rod bolts now and I can start putting it back together, can't wait :D

I wish:D. I was waiting for the rod bolts to turn up for over a month. I measured the original set, they had stretched slightly, which is normal but I'm not risking it on a moving part at my power level. Anyway, they turned up 3 weeks ago, the day before I jetted off to the Maldives for two weeks. I had such a great time there, unbelievably relaxing, beautiful weather, I miss it. I'm busy this weekend as I'm working Saturday but only for a couple of hours so if I'm feeling up to it I may set the ring gaps for the pistons. It's just need to get it all back together then.

Ive bought a few carbon bits for the engine, painted A few parts and sorted new intercooler pipes to try and make the bay look a little less... **** basically, lol.

A mate of mine bought an Evo 8 after I took him out in mine when it was running, lol, I'm jealous of him now :D. I haven't been away for two years as I had so much going on last year, it was a bloody well deserved holiday and I'd highly recommend it as a destination for anyone. I'll be going back!

I'm dying to sort the car out, lost motivation a bit again after waiting so long for parts and being away doing **** all for two weeks. I need to just crack on with it.

One place I always wanted to go but from what I have seen is more a couples destination, unless I can take my car I would be going solo ha ha ha
Get it finished mate! Hate waiting for parts myself very impatient when it comes to things out of my control but end of the day your car WILL be epic so worth all the faffin about!!!

It seems widely thought of as a couples place. There were a lot of Germans there, it's a big holiday destination for them, along with the Japanese, there were lots of both while I was there. They really like the Brits as its somewhere they're a minority and I guess we tip a lot better, me and the other half did anyway and we received very good service for it. There were families there with older teenage children, single parents with younguns, didn't see any singles though. Get yourself a bird if you fancy the trip:D, it's well worth it. The sea is like looking into a bathtub, Rays, Sharks and an unbelievable array of underwater wildlife. We took over 500 photos on 3 cameras, the underwater ones are going to be pretty special. I swam with a Ray trying to keep up with it, an amazing experience.
