Haha Dean I could only dream of doing it as good as you and Craig!

To me the finish isnt the best so I may flat it all back with some wet and dry paper and give it another coat, either that or the Dynax UB ontop will make it look better.

Stupid Photobucket, its because I made a thread on Driftworks and its getting loads of hits so its quickly exceeded my bandwidth! Removed the photos now though so hopefuly it will be fine when it resets.

Photos are back up and working now

Made a start on the middle section now including both rear arches -

There was quite bad rust forming around the tops of both arches :(

After a rub down its clear that the rust manages to form in even the smallest, hard to get to places!

Anyone who hasnt tackled the rust on their S15 i'd get on it asap! As I thought mine was in very good condition but it just shows when you start digging its not as it seems :(

Washed down with Surfex HD ready to apply Deox Gel next time I work on the car -

So thats the middle section almost ready for paint, once this bit is done ill be way over half way towards completion in terms of the work im doing myself...I still need to sort out powder coating and plating :|

Todays work spent entirley on sorting out everything I had removed and getting the stuff ready for plating and powder coating.

It took a long time to sort everything and make sure I know whats what but now im left with this

Carriers and subframe are ready to be de-bushed along with all the control arms

Can these be easily seperated does anyone know?

Or once split do they need pressing together using a press?

Parts :)

Thats not all of them either!

Made a start on the sills the other day, in all honesty they were terrible!

I forgot to take piks before I started rubbing down but they were covered in surface rust along with the middle box sections.

These still need a lot more work before I can paint!

Few photos of the back end in 1 coat of primer -

You can split the rear hubs but you will have to replace the bearings as it destroys them when you split them. Good work again mate. Shows just how worth while this work is.

nice work :) you can get the hubs blasted if you carefully mask the bearing seals with a few layers of duct tape, then you can prime ad paint them :)

Little update -

Continued working on the underneath and got it to a point where I’m happy to paint.

There were slight areas that were an absolute bas*ard to get 100% clean.

This bit for example was worked on for ages, in the end I got rid of as much as I can and then decided to paint as you can apply the primer with up to 10% rust present anyway. Btw I got it looking much better than the above pic before I painted.

The underneath then looked like this after 2 coats of electrox -

I’m annoyed about the above box rail being damaged as this was done before I bought the car... can’t really repair this without cutting it out and welding a new bit in place...

I put the bits that need plating in a solution of Deox C

Its fast acting and after about 8 hours they looked like this -

I will do it again the day before I take them to be plated.

I then went about seam sealing -

Not the best looking jobs but it’s going to be painted over anyway so you shouldn’t be able to see it.

Atm I’m working on prepping the prop and diff etc. for paint, and I will also put the top coat of protection on the underside when I can. Not sure whether to do stone chip on top of that also so there is 3 layers of protection...

Good work :) Your really going to town with the work your doing. It's a shame about the chassis box section. I'd say it's worth getting repaired personally, bit of a shame to leave it like that after all the effort thats been put in.

With regards to plating, if you use MiniBatch Plating don't bother stripping the nuts/bolts/washers before you go as they have their own stripping solution that they will use anyway which works in minutes :)

Cheers Craig

It will probably be something I look into getting done at a later date tbh as ive got too much going on atm to think about sorting this out! Someone like Garage D would be good to use I think :)

Can you help me out with my question re the bushes as im still not sure on how exactly to go about sorting the subframe ready for these bloody things :annoyed: -

http://forum.s15oc.com/showthread.php?8772-Energy-Subframe-bushes

I still need to get these ordered but they are sounding like more trouble than theyre worth.

Looking great dude! Dunno how you could do this without driving the car first I would be itching to take it for a spin! Well worth it though,I am going to take mine of the road this winter and do it hopefully.
My rails are like that underneath too apparently they can get damaged if people aren't very careful loading the cars at the docks.
I was thinking you may be able to pull it out like they do with big dents on bodywork ie spot weld little metal rods in a line along on the middle of the dent then pull the dent out and remove the rods. Either way its looking really good mate!

They are really easy mate and WELL worth doing. I was worrying when I did it but our subframes are different to S14 ones, and a lot easier to fit these bushes to. I've replied to your link, but basically.. let them burn! :D

I got the car back in September and started the work after Christmas so I did get to drive it for 4 months

I used it all through the winter in the bad snow we had etc...it was fun at times lol but I think thats what really kick started the rust off!

Update -

First off me being an idiot accidentally lost a load of photos off my camera so there are loads of bits cleaned up and ready for paint that are missing as well as a few others...

Anyway these are a few little bits that needed de-rusting and painting

After a lot of work they were ready to paint with this -

Which left them looking like this -

These will be getting another few coats in black!

Bushes! Aghhh what a pain in the ass these are!

At first I was using this to try and get them out...

It worked but was slow...VERY SLOW!

Decided to switch to something a bit more erm...powerful that I borrowed off a neighbour ^_^

A lot of photos are missing but it made massive fires when the bushes were buring :D

Ended up with a nice bush free subframe, control arms and lower arms..

Decided to stone chip the underside using some nice 3M stuff -

I first masked and plugged relevant things that you dont really want stone chip on / inside

The annoying thing is I thought 3 cans would be enough but could have done with 4 tbh!

I just didnt have enough to do the whole underside, what I did to overcome this problem was to miss out on top of the fuel tank as really it wont get hit by stones will it...I know its added protection but id rather the sills and box sections be protected :)
