No idea, mate. I've been too busy to work on it recently and there's no space on the ramp either so I don't want to start stripping the engine outside.

I had a great battle with an evo on the way down to BDC the other day! By great I mean I got destroyed! He was all over my ass when I was in front and he was miles ahead when he was in front. Very impressive!
Maybe different level of mods ?????
It had probably been messed around with. The later cars get up to around 400bhp with just a remap and exhaust.
Anyway, I got bored... Bought some wheels, something a bit different this time...
BBS RSII/O splits, they're in desperate need of a refurd, thinking polished lips with black centres, not sure at thew moment though.

Not at the moment, mate. I bought a gt3076r for it as the turbo let go again, from a phantom oil leak, which was why I started looking for engine issues in the first place. I've since had the billet wheel turbo rebuilt again, lol. The gt3076r has sat in a box unused for a while.
i really need to kick my arse in gear, I lost my socket for the ARP head studs, they run some weird splined fitting 1/2" socket and I refuse to buy a new one when I know I've got one lying around somewhere.
I'm not a fan of polished metal either, I was just going to stick them in one colour, but I've seen quite a few "stanced" Evo's running BBS wheels recently with polished rims and they don't look too bad, although they have quite a bit more dish that what mine have...

Yeah, found the oil leak months back. I never knew the car had run low on oil, which was what actually happened, as it never left any puddles on the floor, it was only leaking while the car was under load. It made a right old mess of the turbo, all the custom one off parts were destroyed, I had to source everything to get it done again.
The rollerbearing turbo's I've bought in but the billet turbo was all built in house, twice, lol.

That's crazy man how was it leaking under load? Forcing its way out from somewhere?

It was sump sealer I was recommended to use. I expressed my concern after using it but was told it was fine, turned out I should have listened to my own judgement. It's a long story.
We used to build weird and wonderful things, we stopped a couple of months back and it's helped so much with our work load. Standard production stuff is far far easier to deal with and earns 10 times as much.

Sound like a cool job man I can only begin to imagine how much this would have cost you if you had someone doing this work for you !!

Just to give you an idea on what it would have cost me. The billet wheel turbo's are £1500 each, had two of those, lol. The gt35r is about the same plus duty and that's just 3 of the turbos, lol. Head work would have cost £1500 with cams, springs and lash adjusters. I've done lots more work on it too. I'd hate to think what I've actually spent on parts and my own time.

There's been some update on issues with Wiseco pistons, it seems they have changed their gudgeon pin design. For the mean time I can only presume I've got an earlier type. Somebody has updated a thread I started about Wiseco's with hairline cracks on the MLR. The pistons have actually deformed, as he had issues removing the pins, but had cracks on all four pistons, so it seems I caught mine early with just the one piston. There appears to be no bore damage on his analysis, so a straight forward piston swap may be all I need... I hope.
It's also become apparent that Wiseco have increased the size of the pins in thickness, photo's to show this, and increased wall thickness on the pistons.

Fingers crossed that it hasn't damaged anything else then buddy! Be nice if it was just a straight swap over. Bit easier to swallow!

Et voila... One cracked piston...
ive stripped the engine, finally. Everything is in pretty good condition, shells are unmarked, it's just the single piston that's failed, and it happened to be the one sitting right in front of the knock sensor so that would explain why we had abnormal knock readings while trying to map the car.

Ah so all in all not as bad as you thought? Case of a new set of pistons and away we go?
