little update, no pics yet... front end is all done :) braking system is all installed, bled and handbrake fitted and adjusted. front wheels are on and front is back on the ground. finished painting the diff yesterday, just need to paint the ends of the driveshafts, install the drivetrain from the box back, make some minor tweaks to the geo to roughly get it driveable and then put some petrol in and run her :D

the actual shafts were rubbed down, zinc primed and then hammerited with silver hammerite. the ends and the diff, i used the wire brush on the drill, then used a zinc galvanising spray to do three generous coats with no laquer. it gives like a matt finish, is hard wearing and resistant to oils, petrol and chemicals. i think it should hold up well - if you scratch it with a bolt head etc it doesn't go through to the metal so hopefully will resist stone chips etc......

you can get it in screwfix mate, about 3-50 a can. i'm not sure anyone else has tried it before, but its much like a silver version of satin black paint which everyone uses, except for the fact that its something like 90 percent zinc so is a corrosion inhibitor in itself ;) also didn't have to prime with it, and it withstands up to 250degrees c. it's a no lose situation really, if you paint it with this and don't like it, it can be primed and sprayed with a laquer paint and then it's just an extra layer of protection :)

edit: here it is

good for radiators and intercooler elements too :D

thanks for the nice comments again everyone, the hard work is worth it when people think it's nice :D

chris, two cans would literally do 3 coats on the diff and driveshafts with some to spare. you get really good coverage from them but because no matter what prep you do the driveshaft ends will be rough still as thy are rough cast so a nic coat builds it up and makes it look a bit smoother too. i originally tried black hammerite but i gave up trying to use it in the end on anything that wouldn't fit in my oven - hammerite is very thin, takes ages to dry and is very temperemental to work with...

Yeah I have heard that polo suggested komma satin black but I like the look of the silver so will prob give that a shot I reckon are you using solid diff bushes now?

nope, i'm using energy ones mate, just black instead of red - if i'd of kept the red bushes they would of stood out against the orange ones over the rest of the car :) as far as i can tell, they don't alter the angle of the diff either, not unless you fit them upside down....

That's good news then,Was told they raised the diff about 3mm which isn't enough to be a problem anyways, yeeah they would have clashed quite badly with the orange! Looks really good though mate the end is in sight just in time to enjoy the sunshine!

Yeah, they do alter it slightly. If you compare the original bushes to the energy ones you can see the difference clearly. A lot of pepole in Americe get them machined down to fit as the originals did. I don't think it really matters though.

Looking very nice Dean BTW! :)
