looking good Dean, any chance you could post/pm some pics of the seals in the diff? I seem to a have I leak from mine and wanted to see them exposed so I know what I am looking at. I have the service manual and but the pic's and explanation don't make much sense to me. If not no prob.:thumbs:

can do mate - its just like a plastic/fibre gasket thats all, i'm going to re-use it but smear a small amount of wurth 250 silicon on both mating surfaces before re-assembling

its definitely a drop the diff job mate, but thats not that bad. all the drivshaft nuts and bolts need undoing (6 each side), the prop needs dropping (4 nuts/bolts), and moving to one side, the speed sensor cable needs to be unplugged and unclipped as does the breather and the three diff mount nuts on the backplate need taking off as well as the earth lead. then when you undo the two front diff mount bolts the thing will want to drop off. it needs to be lowered down and forward together to free it.

i guess i could have a mild case of ocd....dunno....i prefer to see it as i take pride in things i do - but i mostly just like to keep myself busy all the time or i could easily just end up sat in front of the telly which i'd rather not lol

I take it that is the back and not the seal around the drive shaft? Removal info will be useful im sure :thumbs:

ah i see - yours is leaking from the input where the prop bolts to? if thats the case mate then i'm afraid i can't help, i wont be taking the diff apart....i'd imagine its a pig of a job to sort - sorry....

no prob mate, tbh I was not expecting pics so fast anyway. Figured if you took it apart as some point you could maybe grab a pic or to for me. Looking over the service manual looks like you remove the drive shaft and leave the diff in place. looks like some mad tools are used to so may be a job for a garage:down:
What worries me is why it's doing it and will it just rip the new seal apart. anyway cheers for the info and pics

cleaned up the rear coilovers with a bit of regular furniture polish and a brush - they have stayed in great condition considering they have been on for 2.5 years in the uk and however long before that in japan.......

been spending a bit of time here and there cracking on with the cleaning up, zinc priming and stone chipping on the chassis but not gonna bother with pics until theres a finished section.

managed to get hold of a z32 setup and stripped them down, alls in great condition but the backplates are off being coated atm.

also hubs and a few other bits came back from powder coating so i fitted the driftworks bushes - easier than i thought and a nice tight fit

more updates will come as things start arriving back, but time is split at the moment between getting ready for crimbo and living in general, so its pretty slow at the moment....

So what Bilt Hamber stuff have you got so far? Are you using the Electrox to prime it?

I emailed them for some advice and Im glad I did as they said not to use Hydrate 80 which I was going to before priming...they said instead just get rid of rust and clean up the surface etc then just put electrox on to bare metal.

It sucks for me though as the Deox Gel wont work as well in the cold and as my car will be done on the drive way its not going to be as good as if you did it in the summer. I think I may put some of the Dynax S50 on for over winter then do a decent job when its warm? Not sure yet.

cheers mate - so far there are very few areas i've had to take back to metal. if the surface was clean and sound then all i did was degrease it, key it and then brush paint it with electrox, 2 coats in places that went back to metal. i didnt use the deox gel as a wire brush was good enough to give me clean metal. then i've done a coat of quite thick stonechip as the bilt hamber site recommends, then finished it all of with a coat of hammerite stonchip which is a little thinner but has a sheen to it and shouldnt hold the dirt. so far i've done the boot floor and rear arches, and the area behind the tank up to the back of the sills and its going well, couple of light runs but when you look at the standard stuff nissan throw on in places then its like rolf harris did it in compaison lol

Dean make sure you put plenty of poly bush lube on the polybushes. if not you my find the bushes squeeking like hell over time... happened to me.....

have done mate, its vaseline type stuff that came from energy with their bushes. havent put lots on, but enough that the metal sleeve can be rotated a bit inside the bush

the internals of the Handbrake tend to look clean like that as there not exposed, it was backplates for me that were a bit rusty and needed a little work..

I'm going to grind the disc covers off my backing plates before geting them coated. They are a bit crusty so don't mind doing it!
