another little update - cold garages aren't too inviting so not much has been done...

thanks to jez8553 for the k-sport brakes ;) and to a friendly 300zx breaker for a good set of rear calipers

all stripped off and ready for a refurb of the z32's and k-sports painted to match in a samco blue.

lovely new ventilated 300zx discs for the rear in a similar pattern to the k-sport discs

went for some standard type pads to begin with as they should do the job as an all rounder, but wont be dear to change my mind later on.

should take a week or 2 to turn around and then i can start building up the rear hub and brake assembly :)

hope so, i was never 'unhappy' with the old ones, but better to have more than you need and not be left wanting in the future - i dont want to be doing all this again lol

just wire brush on the drill, brush coat of electrox and brush coat of metal paint - this is rough cast anyway and a brush coat should be more durable than aerosol for when i need to jack it up from here in future. i'll spray the inputs and outputs though :)

more little bits done

k-sports given a light skim by the local engineering firm so they are now like new :), bells wirebrushed to reveal a nice bronze anodised finish and the centres of all the discs painted in hi-temp black

hub assemblies now re-assembled - was a real pain as powder coating made the centre a pig to fit the bearing/hub back into the carrier, so the edge had to be filed off, greased and then the hub pulled into the carrier by tightening each rear bolt evenly to pull it down flat. pics are the best i could do as shinyness was causing a lot of reflections :)

r33 handbrake cables have now arrived, brake lines too, just waiting to finish cleaning up all the bolts, nuts, washers etc. before sending for plating (with a little help from a friend ;)) and then the rear brakes can be fitted together, and a lot of parts can start going back on.

had a bit of a problem with all the bolts i had sourced for free for the subframe - despite what i thought, and other companies supplying them with certain suspension parts, the engineer thats been supplying me says that they definitely should be 12.9 graded cap screws so i'm going to go with those - i would re-use the originals but some of them have the built on adjusters which i wont need, and they arent long enough to use with a all metal locking nut :)

Yeah, it's good having lots of people using it. I was struggling with the hub nuts yesterday but some bloke turned up with a 3/4" socket set which, combined with my jacking handle, solved the problem :)

if you haven't already got one, ask the missus for a cordless impact driver for crimbo :). i don't use mine a lot, but when i've needed it, its made light work of the jobs, i tried with all my might to undo those hub nuts with a 2 foot bar and it wouldn't budge....

I have an air impact driver, doesn't get used very often either but very handy indeed.

Do you have any more updates yet mate? After seeing your diff cover above, I had to drop mine off at the polishers! They quoted me £12 too, which was cheaper than pretty much anything else I could have done with it :)

not really mate, the main job is the undercoating and thats only half finished....the sills have been straightened on the jacking points and taken back, then electrox primed. only bits left are the trans tunnel and chassis rails. waiting for my calipers back from concptua as they are refurbing and painting the z32 rears and matching the k-sports..... decided to do the front arches while i'm there now, it's not much more work :)
