What can cause rubbish mpg's and burning a lot of oil?

I get 280 on average daily commute but I do drive like an idiot too much. On a long run I can get 360 per tank. 52litres on average at 1.37= £71 which is from bottom(fuel light) to top(pump stopping)

my exhaust is well thick(tip) with soot so again says to me rich lol...

I get 200-210 to £60 in my mondeo lol so that aint that bad dude

I get about 290 miles to a tank if I do a lot of motorway cruising. Normally a lot less though but that's due to me using it as a daily and dealing with a lot of start-stop traffic where I work. To be honest, the car could maybe use a map at some point once I have a few bits for it.

Topped the tank up today and did 300 miles from Helston, Cornwall to Telford, Shropshire. 80-90mph average speed with a few spirited runs every now and again. This is where my fuel level now sits

Can't believe how well it's done! ha!
