Nice to make some progress, I have this going in. A straight cam late 180sx engine.
Still need to buy a turbo somehow sort out air mass and air box, intercooler and pipes etc etc. Going to be an expensive week !!

so is it just this part of the loom that need to be re-pinned

Yes the complete engine loom to ECU.
I have found a nice chap who not only is going to sell me a straight cam loom and ecu, but he is going to make one good loom out of the one I've removed and the one he has

At this point I'm not sure whether to bin the a/c off. I've been admiring some high mount intercoolers with some nice simple short pipe runs.

the appeal of the high mount (like Partshop max) there are so few joins in the pipework boost leaks are pretty much a thing of the past

Chickened out after driving about in a car with air con this week so decided to keep it. Plus theres not many good high mount kits available and don't think I will gain much.

Mishimoto intercooler fits nicely, just some pipework to sort. Bought a s14 intercooler pipe kit which is fine on the turbo side but on the throttle side ive had to have the pipe cut and welded and find a good silicone bend but seems to work ok

First proper drive this evening down to the beach, got a snagging list as long as my arm but at least I can start driving it again.

What kind of work did it end up taking to get it working? what did you have to mod to suit the spec S stuff. really want to do this to mine soon

Engine goes straight in, clutch and flywheel are different
Intercooler needs mounting, hole cutting in battery tray and ic pipes sourcing
Engine loom removed, bought a loom to suit the DET engine and posted them both to a member on SXOC who then custom made one loom out of the two
Plumbed in airbox, air mass and intake pipes (all adds up as some traders ask silly money for parts)
Exhaust downpipe, still trying to get mine to fit nice to the rest of the standard system

I suppose it depends on how complete you get your engine, mine wasnt and I ended up buying quite a lot of brand new parts which added up to a small fortune
I had a fairly bare engine with no turbo side so had to buy loads

Or you could just buy mine, will be up for sale in the next few weeks !!
