and i am looking at upgrading from the stock open diff, but i am not sure of what i need for a spec s

I just swapped mine a week or two ago. Dropped an S14 SR20DET Nismo 2 way in it. Came with the output shafts. Still getting used to the popping/chunking sound that happens when I turn and accellerate. I'd suggest this diff or a Kaaz if you want some good locking wheels. If you're just driving it around and occasionally want some wheel lock, go with a 1.5 way.

You might consider some Work emotion cr kai's in the WMB finish with a decent offset (ie. deep taper ). The WMB is like a dark chrome finish - should look fantastic on a white S15 - alternatively black ones with a red lip
