Is it definitely buggered then? An s14a one should be much easier to get hold of and 'should' be the same mate - I say this because when I fitted an s14a gearbox the s15 starter motor mounts up, looks the same as s14/a and works perfectly 
We think so yeah, i've had a bar in there this morning giving it a whack and every 10th time it will move but it doesn't seem like its engaging. I'm happy the battery is ok, gonna try remove the starter if get a nice day and have a look at it but if someone has a spare one would save the hassle by just changing it. The ones i've seen haven't been to costly. Thats cool I guessed the 14a ones would be similar, i posted on sxoc to see if i get any replies on there!
