Guys, I friend of mine just gave me his "blown" Garrett GT3076R. I would like to know if it's too expensive to have it rebuild, or if i'm intending to sell it, how much can it go for? The shaft has play and the compressor wings are a bit melted on the edge. I'll be uploading some pictures later on.

Well the core is technically known as ''****ed''. You'll have to try a few places to get a replacement core, which won't be cheap being what it is. It's quite difficult to get a rollerbearing core in the UK now. Maybe there's contacts in the Dominican?

You're mate clearly had a pretty terrible intake system too as the compressor wheel has been chewed up on the inducer face.

The turbo is worth the outer casings, if someone is willing to pay for them. I wasn't intending to be harsh, but I see this every day as my job and I can tell what's what. I'd be a little more diplomatic if I was in working hours :)

At least there is an upside, it would make a great paperweight.

Hahaha, you are not being harsh at all mate, just realistic! =P, any how, I've seen a couple of sites that sells the CHRA but is pretty expensive and i might as well just buy a new one if you ask me. There is another site that sells the bearing and seals kit for it, so i just started to disassemble the turbo myself, to later check with a turbo specialist to see what can i do with it. Here are some more pictures

Whilst we're on the subject of turbo rebuilds etc... prob aimed best @ Adam... why are Tial V-band exhaust housings so expensive and regarded as an upgrade item?

Is V-band the brand for something or is it a particular shape/fitment/part of the turbo??

Yeah that, it doesn't use conventional nuts and bolts/studs but its just a clamp. So flick off a few clamps and your turbo is out.

No one will be able to rebuild that turbo, i'm afraid, the wheels are wrecked. Your only option would be a new CHRA.

The v-band stuff is just to make life easier when taking parts off the car. For instance, on the elbow you'll have a single clamp to undo rather than 5 nuts where two have to be undone from under the car and the remaining three from ontop

Ah cheers - can't believe that's what V-band means... I've seen them on the aftermarket turbo kits... looks much easier than damn nuts and studs :wack:

hmmm, but i won't be able to rebuild bc of the wheels?? cuz i just saw a sale in a compressor wheel for this turbo from Billet, also, there is a rebuild kit (seals, bearings, etc.) i don't know to much about this, but does this make sense? or am i just day dreaming?

Rollerbearing turbo's don't run bearings, they use a cartridge. I'd also be wondering if the compressor wheel was genuine as garrett don't release single parts for BB turbos.

If the wheels are destroyed on the outer face just imagine what lurks inside the turbo. When I say that core Is scrap, I mean it. It's not a case of changing "seals" unfortunately.

Hmmm, gotcha!, i'll try to seek a cheap CHRA assembly for this one then. Thanks!
