the spec R's are turbo.... stuff like compression etc are different.

the enigne code for the spec R is SR20DET yes.... but i believe the engine code isn't on the VIN and... it wouldn't be hard to and a "T" to one....

the VIN number can be checked on the Nissan FAST software to confirm stuff.

So there are no distinct difference besides VIN number and what it says on chassis plate?

where is the chassis plate located?

I've known of an S15 chassis plate being altered. Get the chassis number and check it in FAST. That 100% accurate. The chassis number can be confirmed by checking the firewall. Its embossed on it.

The chassis plate is to the left of the firewall at the back of the engine bay. The embossed chassis number is a the top of the firewall above the clutch master cylinder.

oh yeah! i almost forgot...

there are 2 types of engine cover right?
red and black...which one is for the S15?
i read on Wikipedia that red are for S13, black is for S14 and S15. is that true?

so if i want to get spec R, then it has to be...
1. Black top
2. Intercooler piping is seen to the front bottom
3. and the VIN is match to SR20DET right?

do you guys have a VIN number searcher or something?

Red tops for S13 and the black tops for the S14 and S15's.

1. Black top
2. Intercooler piping is seen to the front bottom

1. yes
2. yes. The intercooler is behind the lower left front grille.
3. Make sure you VIN and chassis plate match. If they do, you will know what engine the car came with.

do you guys have a VIN number searcher or something?
I don't sorry. Someone else might tho.

The S14 and S15 cam covers, though both black, are both different.

Vehicle details can be verified from the chassis number using the relevant FAST CD (Nissan's parts catalogue).

umm...didn't the intercooler is located in center front?

how can it be in the left front?

maybe because the standard intercooler is small?

The standard intercooler is tiny. probably about 20cm by 20cm. Someone else may be able to give specific measurements.

Front mount intercoolers (FMIC's) are aftermarket addons.

Gek! it's so small...how can it offers great cooling capabilities anyway?

hm, btw you know Nissan RB26DETT, right? and the RB code stands for Race Bred

what SR stands for?

also, did turbo cars suddenly 'shot' spark and sound of 'bang' when you shift into lower gear in high RPM?

if it's not, how can i do that?

This is attributed to over fuelling which many tuned cars can suffer from. This happens when you lift off the accelerator while accellerating hard in high revs and excess fuel isnt combusted in the engine, this usually burns off in the exhaust making the bangs and flames.

This isnt usually a big issue (running lean is more of a problem) unless you still have you CAT still in place which can be damaged.

The standard WMIC is capable of happily handling the standard setup. Its only when you start upping power that you need something better like an FMIC (front mounted IC)

If i change it to a larger ones, did it affect the fuel economy?

if the cars has better cooling, it means the turbo can work efficiently right?

The "race-breed" part of RB is a myth.
No one has ever confirmed that the RB actually stands for something. same thing with the SR or CA or VQ.

There is one S15 version which has a red-top, and that's the Autech S15 with a 200hp N/A SR20DE engine.
That should be easily spotted by the autech badge on the rear bumper and on the front part of the engine.

did you guys see JP825 engine bay? (looks clean)

and after i seen it, i've become more confused with SR engine...

the intercooler piping is coloured black. and it runs accross to the top of radiator fan, and goes down below from the right side.

did he re-position the piping?

you see...i'm still confused with the idea of differentiating SR20DET and SR20DE. in Indonesia some of the people won't change the engine code if they swap engine or make it turbo...that's what scares me, if i get the SR20DE turned into turbo...(it's so weak! compared to SR20DET)

if it's the SR20DE, there's no intercooler piping right? but how does you know it's not intercooler piping?(if you look at the pictures of SR20DE in various place, you'll see some kinda black pipe running to the top of radiator fan)

also how do you know it's the spec R from Japan (which has more HP) compared to the other spec R

i want one from Japan
