Help on new engine from rhdrivejapan

Going to rmove my engine and replace it with a TOMEI Genesis Complete Engine SR224G SR225G.
Any know if it is a straight fit
Would the stock turbo bolt on this along with the other stock components (for now).

Also

Anyone know a good place to take my s15s engine for a overhaul if it is not a good idea

wow :wack:....... you want some more power and are thinking of the tomei genesis - are you insanely rich????

what's wrong with your engine then - if you have an idea of how much power you want then there are tried and tested ways and means of doing it with many trusted builders too. the tomei is amazingly cool and everything and i'd love to see one in a uk car, but you can get a very well spec'd engine built here from 3k onwards depending on spec but this is really only necessary if you are aiming for over 400bhp. once the engine is built up bulletproof then you can select a turbo to give you what you want , then you are into gearbox mass destruction territory and so on. you'd also need to select management, a clutch to cope and sort out all the weaknesses in the chassis too (brakes/suspension).

The engine to say the least has not been well looked after. Seems to be oil residue on the block (slightly to the right of ffan belts ect. Coolant leak that has just Started ( reckon I can sort that as I deal with pipes and water day in day out).
When you pull away seems the belts are squeaking, don't get me wrong car has done 100,000 so expect these sorta thinthings I suppose.
Love my s15 to bits and want it running like a champ. To be fair think I will need jus a few realisable mechanics to look iit over.
Been looking on here but can't really find any good recommended places to go near the Brighton area and surrounding areas.

London is a bit far for me to go cheers any way tho joeh

Sounds to be very easy to solve your issues

You probably just need a rocker cover gasket and a new coolant pipe somewhere - where the leak is.. no need at all for a new engine, the belt squeeling will only be caused by coolant/oil getting on the belts or if one of the belts are worn out...

Can't see you spending more than £50 to sort the whole lot out yourself - very easy job - can give directions if needed

it sounds like you have the common ownership problems mate - the oil leak is the oil pump silicon seal which is crap so they all leak a bit, head has to come off to repair it so nobody bothers..... coolant leak is most likely from one of the lines to the turbo, have a look under there and see where its coming from. squeaky belts.... well, that's an easy one. either a pulley/tensioner is knackered/need re-tensioning or just a new set of them. there are loads of specialist garages around that can tackle those jobs mate - not the end of the world

Can see the leak of the coolant, soulds not be an issue.
So sounds like a little oil leakage is inherent on the sr engines. I'll get a few pics up tomorrow of the oil residue see what you guys think.

timing chain cover/oil pump cover is the same mate they both live behind it

Jesus, Over £13k to get it here and then potentially upto £16 with import duties

I've started looking at strokers now, if you want a built stroked engine have a look at the Mazworx website, but there are plenty of people in the UK that can build one for you. Gary at AP-Tuning built my engine a few years back, it had a HG failure which caused by an unknown and he rebuilt it pretty much FOC for me


As others have said though you don't have any serious issues really

Water leak found..... Its on the turbo, seems to be leaking out of a bolt on the underside of the turbo....
Any ideas if it could be that or is a seal near by that may have split

If you're lucky it may just be a copper washer, more likely the weld split on the coolant feed banjo... Turbo has to come off mate along with manifold and it's not even worth bothering to refit the lines. Time to upgrade to a flexible braided set that won't split from apex or hel, they are around 90.00 for the set of three with washers and fittings... A job that you could DIY or a specialist will charge a couple of hours labour. As the turbo is coming off you will need genuine gaskets from Nissan or apex again as the originals should not be reused or they will fail and it all needs to come off again. Do it right with locktabs and it shouldn't give any more problems...

To change it you'll have to remove the manifold and turbo mate by which point you should just fit newnlines and gaskets to do a proper job of it. It most likely the actual hose anyway but if there is a leak there, it will have to come off regardless...

The standard hoses are pretty brittle and normally leak after they have been moved so as dean said you will prob be better off doing it once and know you have fresh everything
