Right chaps, as some of you may know I have a little problem.
Fitted my Mani a few weeks ago, had a little water leak so removed it all and when I put it all back together the oil line ( block end) wouldn't tighten up it screws in but won't go tight if you get what I mean? Seems the thread in the block has stripped out.
Can anyone recommend a good helicoil kit and does anyone know what size thread I would need??
I am a bit worried because the vifeos I have seen of the repairs seems like a lot of metal will filings and also the last bit of the cool kit snaps off on the inside? Obviously the last thing I need is metal shaving getting in the engine!!
advice and reassurance needed as I really don't wanna take the type r to Japfest and am rapidly running out of time!!

Not sure if this is good advice, just an idea but couldn't you get away with metal shavings and bits of crap going in to your engine from re-threading by using cheap oil for literally a couple of days and then swap the whole lot for what you normally run with?

Kinda like flushing out the bits you don't want without worrying that it'll affect your engine in future :)

Ahh, I thought this was for a water feed, didn't realise it was the oil way. That is risky as if there's any swarf left behind its going to go straight into the turbo. You'd need at least an airline for this too to aid in getting any swarf out of the hole.

Yeah could do james, havespare oil knocking about.That's why I am worried don't want to do any more damage to it..
I have an air line but maybe I would be best to bite the bullet and get someone else to do it for me rather than have the worry of something going wrong.

Well it's very very difficult to do a helicoil repair in a delicate place! We get a local firm out to do injector and glow plug repairs! Is it the oil return pipe? Or oil feed pipe?

Either way I'd get a specialist out to repair it! But if it's the return into the block then as lupix says just flush the engine through a couple of times! And get a Driftworks etc magnetic sump plug and install it when you drain it the first time!

It's the oil feed mate that's why I was a bit worried.
I am tempted to do it myself as there is plenty of info on it. At the same time getting someone to do it for me takes away the risk was already thinking about the magnetic dump plug thought it would be a good idea

i thought about what could be done the other day mate, do you know anyone that welds ally or can come to you to do it? i just thought if you can get an alloy boss that is tapped to the correct fitment and weld it to the block over the original feed hole then that's the only way i can think of that wont allow swarf or complications etc in the oilway from tapping, but whether or not its feasible is another thing.....

i recently re-tapped the holes for my seat mounting and noticed its almost impossible to do without some swarf being left in the hole, but at least with steel you can use a magnet probe to try and get the most of it out.... on something like that it doesnt really matter but i personally wouldnt want to risk any (even tiny) bits of swarf either blocking the oil line (which is very narrow) or reaching the bearings in the turbo :( gutted this has happened mate, hope you get it sorted in time for japfest.

Cheers mate, I am still hoping I can sort it in time. A guy on a sxoc said if you do the tap then remoe the gas sensor and crank the engine ( I'm assumin with the hose not attached) that it will push oil through and remove the swarf ?
I kinda fancy doing it myself as a bit of a challenge risky business it I goes tits up though lol thanks for the idea dean, dan knows a guy who does ally welding but not sure if he would come out or not might be worth a shot if I don't fancy the alternative

My mate reckons he knows someone who does mobile thread repairs etc call out £60 including first hour so prob gonna get a pro to do it save me hassle and time ! Hoping to get some spraying done Sunday now too do fingers crossed be back on track soon ....

I'd cover the drill bit and tap with grease so that the bits stick to it :) Magnetic sump plug won't do much to help if it's bits of cast ally :D

I decided I don't really fancy doing it myself so polo is gomma come do it for me end of the week so looks like I should be making Japfest if all goes to plan. Car won't be painted unfortunately but at least it will be there!

Dont rush it just for japfest.

If its going to risk getting swarf in the engine then just take the head off and get it done :nod: Not that much more work after you've taken the mani and turbo off.

Shouldn't be a risk mate he has done quite a few so should be fine .
Plenty of people I have spoken too have done it and had no problems so should be ok
